Whether you’re going on vacation or just running to the grocery store, it’s important to know what to do if you have a roadside emergency because they can come at any time and place. Roadside emergencies can be very disturbing, but following these tips can make it easier.
Prior to leaving your home, make sure you have a roadside emergency kit in your vehicle. It should include a first aid kit, blanket, empty gas jug, flashlight, road flares, battery cables, chargers, and water. Be sure to pull your vehicle off the road, but make sure it’s visible to other drivers going by.
If you have a cell phone, call for help, but stay in the vehicle with the doors locked. Do not get out of the vehicle to try to flag down drivers. If you do need to leave your vehicle do it safely, and stay out of the way of traffic.
